Surprise myself..no go ahead..

H and I were discussing the word "envy" yesterday. I have a good life, no I have a great life! I do what I want, pretty much when I want to do it and am not responsible for many things..We train, sleep in, eat what we want, travel where we want to. There is not much in my life I want. So who do I envy when life is so wonderful?
This woman:

This woman "decided to do an Ironman" and went about 3 hours below her expected time and qualified for Kona. Her marathon time was her PR for a marathon and could have qualified her for Boston. Are you kidding me? She also felt really strong the last 10k of the IM marathon. Seriously? Oh and she does not have a coach or really a training plan...No way!

I, for once would like to surprise the hell out of myself and just do great things in a race. Just by surprise..Oh my gosh I felt so good, I SMOKED that marathon and just surprised myself by coming in 2 hours below my goal time! Who does that??

I hear of these folks and this is where my envy kicks in. While the rest of us are busting our asses training for triathlon, most of us are lucky to just get a PR. Just barely...I wanna be one of those people who just comes in at 13 hours and Gosh I had no idea I was going that fast!

Probably will never happen. Because I am not a freak of nature and have huge lungs, great resolve, physical denial or whatever it takes to accomplish this..

Good luck to this woman although there is a part of me that wishes she were just mortal like the rest of us!

That would be so cool to be able to go 2 hours below your goal time.

You guys have a great time on your adventure. I wish you guys great success.

I envy you, going to Australia and all.

Have fun.

Natural talent....and I love the attitude about just going for it and no coach. She is also in the 30-34 age group. Hope you are full of surprises for yourself in your next race!

I know the feeling...I could train my ass off and not be anywhere close to her time. Just once I would like to know what it is like to have natural talent. Just once!

And if you catch me on a bad day, her nonchalant attitude would really irritate me...on a good day, totally envious ;-)

people like that....so hard to be your best self reading about them - and she's probably charming too!
But whoknows, maybe Busso will be your 'surprise' race!

She's a competitive swimmer. Competitive being the operative word.

A guy in my masters group decided to do a triathlon so he registered for the full Vineman and did in 13:56 in the men's 60-64 AG.

We'll have our day - oh yes we will!

Wow. I wish I could surprise myself by just BQing at a marathon. Huh. That would be one killer surprise! I'd probably wonder how I managed to cut 4 or so miles. :-)

But on the other hand, how many people look at you and wish just once they could run 10 miles let alone compete in an Ironman?! It's all relative!

Enjoy it!!!

Well I'm kind of cynical about reports like that. Maybe she doesn't have a coach or a plan - but she IS a coach so ... whatever. But the part about envy - about wanting to breeze and and be amazed by your super fast time that felt so easy? I totally get that. I think you're too tuned into your body to be unaware of your pace during a racing situation - but I hope you have a GREAT race in Australia. I hope you surprise yourself in the moment by being super relaxed, fluid, and shockingly speedy! Go Debi Go!

You didn't ask, but maybe you're too hard on yourself! I always hope to finish, and if I'm not last over all I'm pleasantly surprised. If I'm not last in my division, I'm freaking amazed. Women that that one aren't a huge surprise, she's a coach. This means she's a lifelong athlete. But we can console ourselves with the idea that she's probably a genetic freak.
